Burnout – Up Close & Personal

Let’s Get Uncomfortable is getting Up Close & Personal with Burnout in the second session of its three-part series on mental health.

Titled BURNOUT: Up Close & Personal – Confronting the Tourism Industry’s Mental Health Crisis, the session is set for Nov. 10 at 10 am and will see LGU’s Maria Ines speaking with Julie Smigadis of Flight Centre Travel Group, Shalene Dudley of Latitude Concierge Travels Ltd. and Tim Chan, PR pro who spent a decade in the tourism industry, about their personal experiences balancing mental health with demanding careers in travel, particularly as they’ve navigated the impacts of COVID-19.

Exploring the real-life impacts of mental distress, this event will be an up-close look at the role mental health plays in our day-to-day, how it hides in plain sight, and ways we can support each other moving forward.

Proceeds from this event will go toward compensating the panelists for their time, energy and expertise. Ticket prices are on a sliding scale, with three options to choose from:

  • Free, for individuals in a restrictive financial position
  • $15, for individuals looking to contribute to the cause
  • $50, for individuals and organizations able to make a more substantial contribution

The session takes place Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 10-11:30AM EST and a Zoom, link will be emailed to ticketholders 24 hours prior to the event.

Let’s Get Uncomfortable is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to offering a safe space for travel industry professionals to have difficult conversations, for the sake of effecting positive change.

From gender equity, to race and representation, to responsible tourism practices, we want to address the issues that are too often overlooked and offer participants a platform to express their positions.

We ensure industry thought leaders and subject matter experts are on-hand to weigh-in on each topic and make a point of establishing action items at the end of each session so attendees feel empowered to make a difference within their own organizations.
